Hexagonal multi-story stone tower
the Goryeo Dynasty
The material of the hexagonal multi-story tower at Geumsan Temple is black dotted rock. It is a tower from the early Goryeo Dynasty that passes from a Silla Kingdom stone pagoda to a splendid and decorative craft tower from the Goryeo Dynasty. Its original location was in the front yard of Daewoong Gwangmyeongjeon Hall, where Bongcheonwon-gu was located. (Now, left of Budojeon Hall)
Bongcheonwon-gu has a record that it was built by King Hyedeok in 1079 (the 33rd year of King Munjong's reign), so it is presumed that the pagoda was built around this time.
When all the pavilions of Bongcheonwon-gu were destroyed by the Japanese army during the Jeongyujae Rebellion, the stone pagoda was moved to its current location in the process of restoring Geumsan Temple.
Judging from the similar shape of the 13-story stone pagoda at Jeonghyesa Temple Site in Gyeongju, it is estimated that it was originally the 13th floor.
