Renovation Records of the Five-Story Stone Pagoda at Geumsansa Temple on Mt. Moaksan

These records were discovered along with the sarira reliquary and other offerings during the dismantling and repair of the stone pagoda in 1971. The renovation records, written in 1492 (the 23rd year of King Seongjong’s reign), document both the renovation process and the history of Geumsansa Temple up to its renovation. These records reveal that during the Unified Silla period, Vinaya Master Jinpyo constructed the three-story Mireukjeon Hall; that during the Joseon Dynasty, various buildings underwent renovation; and that during the reign of King Seongjong, the pagoda was renovated. Since all records of Geumsansa Temple prior to the Imjin War (1592) were lost, the renovation records are a crucial source for understanding the temple’s history during the early Joseon Dynasty.

重修金山寺五层石塔后留下的记录
于1971年石塔拆除维修时，与舍利庄严具一起发现。重修记是1492年（成宗23年）重修五层石塔后留下的记录。它同时记载了重修当时的记录以及重修以前的金山寺历史。由此可知，统一新罗时代真表律师建造了三层弥勒殿，朝鲜时代进行了很多殿阁的修缮，成宗时期维修了塔。壬辰倭乱之前的金山寺记录全部被烧毁，因此重修记是了解朝鲜前期金山寺历史的重要资料。

金山寺五重石塔の修復に際して残された記録
1971年の石塔解体修理の際、舎利荘厳具とともに発見された。重創記は、1492年（成宗23年）に五重石塔を修復した際に残された記録である。重創当時の内容だけでなく、それ以前の金山寺の歴史もあわせて記されている。これにより、統一新羅時代に真表律師が三重の弥勒殿を造成したことや、朝鮮時代にはさまざまな殿閣の補修が行われ、成宗の時代には塔の修理がなされたことが明らかになった。金山寺は壬辰倭乱以前の記録がすべて焼失されたため、この重創記は朝鮮前期の金山寺の歴史を知る上で非常に重要な資料とされている。
